Goddesses of Land and Lake - Mid Wales Soul Pilgrimage

Come journey with myself and my soul sister Sophia Blanton as we immerse in the land and waters of my home, mid Wales, as we are transformed in pilgrimage and ceremony by this magical land:

  • Deeply honour, be embraced by and step though the portal of a 5,600 year old grandmother yew tree, a tree who was ancient when the Romans arrived in these islands 2,000 years ago. Listen to her whispers and the whispers of our ancestors of this land;

  • Visit Maen Llia (‘The Llia Menhir’ aka ‘The Walking Stone’), a standing stone about one kilometre west of Pen-y-Fan. Standing at almost four meters high its original purpose is unknown though it is thought to date from the Bronze Age. On a clear day it can be seen from quite some distance down the Llia valley suggesting that it may have been important as a territorial marker. The stone has long had a number of legends associated with it: one says that whenever a cock crows, the stone will walk off on its own to take a drink from the River Nedd. Another legend says that it visits the River Mellte on Midsummer morning.

  • Hear the stories of the Afanc by the waters of Llyn Syfaddan (Llangorse Lake), the ‘Welsh Nessie’, legendary lake monster, last spotted on 21st September 1987. Legends tell of the wild thrashings of the Afanc causing flooding, a maiden taming the Afanc and letting it sleep in her lap, and even King Arthur slaying the Afanc in Llyn Barfog in Gwynedd. Llyn Syfaddan is also the site of the only British Crannog, man-made Iron Age island for royal dwelling, outside of Ireland or Scotland.

  • Pilgrimage though the legendary lands of Merlin (Carmarthen or Caerfyrddin in Welsh, meaning ‘Fort Merlin’)

  • Continue up to the magical, liminal space that is Llyn y Fan Fach (‘The Little Mountain Lake’). This lake has its own Lady of the Lake legend, a story of of a faery or Swan Maiden who emerged from the lake and consented to marry a mortal man, bringing great abundance from the faery realm. We will call to her, hear her story, and the story of her children, the Physicians of Myddfai - and we will also visit their home in the valley below.
